Summary

This term also describes well my work so far in life. As the kid who had all notebooks filled with drawings and cracked open toy cars to check the engines, exploring the tangents of art and tech was always a source of endless inspiration. So, following this tingling in my brain, this story is divided in Acts to illustrate how my crafted tools can help creating some pixel magic partnership! So sit back, relax, and let's imagineer!

Have you heard of Imagineering? It's a term introduced in a 1940s article that represents a blend between imagination and engineering. Later on, Disney used it for naming a creative department responsible for planning and building attractions requiring this combo of art and tech in Disneyland.

ACT II: The Tools

In order to cast a spell, we all need our wands. So let me introduce you to my tools. Firstly we have: Faboolos!

Faboolos is the platform to create stories with scroll-to-reveal features (and yes - you're experiencing a Faboolos example right here in this presentation). It allows me to create various types of animations, text revealing, and much more, such as:

reveal animations as scroll happens

apply different effects easily to adjust and flexible to convey specific feelings

The combinations of modifiers, actions, images, and animations are nearly endless — and since the platform is custom-built, new features can be added based on demand. Here are some examples that can be built in Faboolos: Themed stories for new product releases Stories that would list discounted products and use animations to bring focus to them (or bundles for example) Stories can be played in autoplay mode (for TVs or non touchable screens) and interactive mode for viewer to actively scroll by dragging the finger on the screen Fans can also scan a QR code in the story and send a message to that specific story (with and without pictures) Since it's a web-based technology, so it can be accessed by any browser and is easily updated

This project also sparks joy by using Augmented Reality (AR) to create an engaging experience. This can also help enhancing visitor's experience so the above is an example of that. Here's the idea: the visitor points an object to a camera and see on screen it expanding into animations and layers. Visitors can then have fun, interact and potentially share it on social media.

And an expansion of the Mirror AR is applying filters to people like hats, sunglasses, and custom assets. The AR projects are at an earlier stage, but it's already possible to create interesting experiences for the visitors and expand the store magic to the digital field.

Act III: The Combined Efforts

Reality is: we're always stronger together! With the tools in hand how can we in reality work together? What would I need from the store's side? What will I provide and assist? Let's separate the efforts:

For better visualization, let's check how a workflow would look like in the next act.

Based on wether we will have touchable or non-touchable screens we can setup the autoplay mode or use the interactive screens that would allow us to better track interactions

In case we have interactive screens we can track and make better use of what's working best and what could be improved (alongside the perception of the team in-store that can verify what's catching people's attentions). We can also verify the amount of messages sent by people by scanning the QR code

For the initial setups, in-person visits would help testing, debugging (verifying if there's any error happening and finding solution), and making sure it would be correctly placed for visitors.

Alongside the themes and timeline for the store we would need to define how many stories will be created for upcoming drops, releases, and focused products it will be important to have a structured calendar to plan correctly for the defined stores.

For the elements on my side to be created I would mainly need: someone to provide the assets and for approving the stages of the story (from concept to final product).

To understand how the stories are perceived it would be nice to know what is catching people's attention more (so that this is used for following stories)

Estimating stories and AR filters highly depends on the complexity each creation requires, including research and building time. Considering an average scenario let's thing about the workflow.

2. Assets handling

Drawings and plans after... how de we get started? This act will serve as placing the cards in the table on how I believe we could start and grow this partnership.

To kick things off, I propose we start with a smaller scope and build from there: 2 interactive stories 1 AR experience 1 in-store visit for setup & testing Total timeline: 3-4 weeks

And then, we keep going. New stories every month, in sync with store's content calendar. AR experiences refreshed each season. Everything hosted, maintained, and tracked on Faboolos. We can readjust deliverables and timelines — I'm always open to discussing new ideas and possibilities. Let's pick the first theme and bring it to life! Email me at: filipe@fffilipeee.com

Time estimation will depend mainly on the complexity of the animations added. As a reference, these elements are easier to add: Pre-created texts and assets in general Moving, rotating, dynamically scaling images Add sprite animations / Image Sequences Add modifiers (visibility / rotation / scale) AR Filters are normally faster to make since it's usually a smaller scope More complex things that require more time: Path animation Animations with more than one element Prepare animations using a single image (creating sprites) 3D assets preparation
